My mom asked me a week ago why I hadn't done any layouts of her, but made my dad an album and do layouts of my brother. Really there is a couple big reasons: When I really like the photos, or they are vintage reprints or very nice photos I have a difficult time deciding how to move forward. I think she forgot that I made the album for my dad quite a few years ago before my personal life was too stressful to scrapbook. SOO... This weekend I made new prints and got started on this layout. I haven't done alot, but this is more than I thought. One week of from school and my only goal was first clean up the house -DONE and then do something that is NOT required for school, job search, skill enhancement or money.

Fathers day card

I made my dad a father's day card. Wow, two cards in 3 days- almost a roll....

I used Core'dinations Black Magic and a Cuttlebug embossing plate called diamond plate. I used some Ranger black crackle paint, but used it thick and didn't let it crack much.
I also used Basic Grey chipboard alphas & the Pink Paislee Fetching sticker book alphas. The images were free vectors I printed out.
Now to get this off in the mail this week!

Been a long time, been a long time....

Yep, a full month of over the eye balls school work, life etc. No crafting in any way shape or form. I have thought of it, but alas no juice.

My final project is due Monday morning and then I have a break until the 20th. There is a possibilty I will do something. It takes me 3-4 days to come down from the buzz of busy.

However, For the Luv of Art is having there June digital challenge this month. If you do any digi this is a great time to scrap and earn a prize. Here is the sketch, and the link to the actual challenge.

Textile and Design 3d soft sculpture project

This is my soft sculpture project. The tray is about 4 feet long and 2.5 feet wide, made of paper with flour and sugar as hardener. It was then spray painted. The tray sheet has a rub on graphix with a spuds logo on it. The retainer itself is made of 4 layers organza and wire and topped off with Ranger glossy accents. The gum was made with Crayola air dry clay, and then coated with glossy accents. The wrapper is made of sheet of vellum that I painted, then I used the graphix rub on sheet for the letting and hand painted the head. The comic is also an enlargement of an original comic from Bazooka. There is clear spittle from the glossy accents at specific areas which you can't see in the photos. Thanks for looking.

Valentines Day Dessert from Giada

This dessert looks fabulous and I think I can actually make it. My daughter wants to go up the Space Needle for Valentines day. So her friend and her mom and sister and I are going to suprise the girls for just a trip up the Needle and maybe a bit out, but for dessert I think I will invite them over for this from Giada. Its called Gianduja souffle.

3D art project with shimmerz sprays and paint

This last two weeks have been very hectic and part of that was my textile and materials class. This project was to take a image/picture of something we could be inspired by. So, I picked Van Goughs Iris painting. Then we were to distress and change fabric to make something. Thankfully my friends mom had this lighting fixture and gave it to me and off to the creative races I went. Here it is and the close up of a flower.

I am going to show photos of the process below and what I did.

First I had to twist wire to add to the lighting fixture for more support, then wrapped wire in batting and wrapped with cotton fabric, which was also doused in texture paste watered down. That gives it a more grainy feeling and it is still flexible to bend.

Here is a close up of the stems- see the shimmer? :)

Then I hand cut the satin fabric petals one by one and the organza petals one by one and the leaves. Then I stitched tiny white wire to the leaves and the center area of the petals. Then using Shimmerz spray and paints and some Tattered Angels Glimmer mist I colored the petals and did spray the leaves as well. Up close you can see it sparkle (love it)

Then I did a burning technique on the flowers and then attached them to the stems.

The centers of the flowers are made of white yarn and I basically filled my hand with craft paint and squished it around, then they dried and I glued them to the centers.

Then I bent and attached the flowers to the lighting fixture and then covered all areas under and around the flowers with dried moss.

I am planning on removing the wiring from the top and possible rework it into a table lamp (which may or may not happen) regardless I like it, the class seemed to really like it and even the bank teller noticed it and said it was wonderful on the way to class. Hooray for me, next project has been assigned, due in about 3 weeks. Maybe I will share it if it is worthy LOL. Thanks for looking

Oh p.s if your looking for the sprays check out AWDML.com or fortheluvofart.com I have also seen a large selection of Glimmer mists at Bluemoonscrapbooking Shimmerz has its own retail shop at the link.
Shimmerz just came out with a solid full color spray called colorings ( they may or may not be ready to ship yet) and then just shimmer to spray over them if you like. All the other sprays have shimmer in them. They are water based, and the paints can be watered down and used like watercolors or right out of the jar. Blingz is HIGHLY blinged out, the pearls are just like it sounds light shimmery effect, Vibez is a bit more intense, but not full color like the new colorings

Fingerless gloves done!

On the yarn train to Portland this last Saturday I started my fingerless gloves. My office in the house is freezing in the winter even with a space heater. Only one side of my body gets warm and my mouse hand aches. SOOO, I decided to make these gloves. They are made from Cascade yarn Cloud 9, which is a angora/wool blend. The more I wear them the fuzzier they will get. I picked a pattern from a book and just added the rib, I stitched the sides together leaving a spot for my thumb. It was a 33 cast on since the pattern was an odd number and I just knitted the extra stitches and it came out perfect. The name of the pattern design is Fern Lace. Thanks for looking.

Knitted pillow finished

Well finally! A few months ago I posted a picture of a cable pillow front, and mentioned I would have to make it into something else. I decided I still wanted a pillow, but needed to reformat how it was to be done. So I bought a pillow at Joann's and had to take out the batting and cut down the casing to fit the size I needed. Then restuffed and bought some fabric for the back. There is invisible inside button closures and the flowers on the front I made and they are for looks. Thanks for looking.

Knitted cowl

Finished this knitted cowl the day before Thanksgiving. It is my first lace piece, and it came out well (with alot of work) Now that I understand some new key things I should be able to do this a bit quicker.
This is made from Zaol yarn, which is a 80%Angora and 20% nylon. This is from a free pattern called Burnished leaves on Raverly. Thanks for looking

Setting up Artfire store

Yes, I finally did it. I am setting up my Artfire store- the name is Twisted Cherry Designs. Here is the new logo

It will be a store of Handcrafted items of all kinds: paper crafting, scrapbooking supplies, premade albums and layouts, cards, fabric projects small and large, knitting/crochet and other things I can think of. I have set quite a few categories, some may stay empty until things are finished up, but please keep checking back.

I will be starting out small with simple items. There will be some things you may recognize and I will make note of this again in other posts. I am VERY aware of copyright infringements, so I call and get permissions if necessary and written/verbal oks for anything that I am not sure on. Many companies offer Angel policies and even with those I call or email to clarify the details.

So hopefully sometime this upcoming week the things will start loading and I will enable and announce the opening. I hope you will all check out the store then and during the upcoming months to see whats new.

Today I went to check out the forum and see what is up and saw the member of the week and went to see who, I see the name Kristen in the posts, but thought oh there must be another Kristen. I click on the blog and to my utter suprise it was me!! Thanks to Ellen for picking me, and thank you all the ladies that post the wonderful comments to my layouts.

Senior picture layout

I decided to scan in a senior photo of my son and tried a photo filter called Poster. Thought it was fun and printed to scrap it.

Doing this layout I came across a new technique that may be fun and useful to others. I was using a tile from a company that was called my little black dress. I covered it with Tim Holtz Crackle paint Picket fence- spread it thinly with my finger then set it with a heat gun for the crackle. I then spritzed it lightly with the Shimmerz Vibez (orange) and let dry. Then I went to apply a word rub on...but found that if I just rubbed on the letters with a round stylus it removed the paint below and left a negative space that spelled the word. COOL- so I left it.

I went on a scrapbooking weekend and have a few to share now. Some I have loaded at fortheluvofart.com and at awalkdownmemorylane.net I also posted them in my photo album on Facebook.

Supplies Used:

This is my interpretation of Ed Hardy style using Shimmerz:

I hand drew the flower and the banner, painted both with shimmerz Jilted Jade (Paint pot)and mixed with a chocolate berry color of smooch for the flower

I also used a Tim Holtz stamp with the Jilted jade painted onto it to stamp little dots in the upper left and lower right corners

The black paper is Coordinations Black Magic Mantra, but I took the Tim Holtz embossing folder Rays and put the jilted jade directly in it to color the splat areas. Then I hand painted the rays with the jilted jade.

The rest is Prima bling, Zva creative black bling swirl, lots of Basic grey rub ons, Glitz glam rub ons, Pink paislee rub ons. Rainboots alpha for the @ sign, and the Glitter Jewelery box alpha. Fierce is a cricut cut alpha and the true type font is Be Safe.

I whipped up a couple new sketches and will post them here. However, I have posted them at awalkdownmemorylane.net too. I am working as admin on the awalkdownmemorylane.net message board and gallery and we are basically starting over with the board.

The site has a full store, great gallery, message board, DT for the store, Store and DT blog so they wanted to start over and we have cleaned out, reformatted forums and started adding new ones.

For those that used to go to Serendipity Scrapbooks board and gallery you will like this. It is a great opportunity for you to be part of a very friendly atmosphere where scrapbooking is the focal point and support and encouragement going right along with it. Right now we have just started the daily challenges, sketches and tutorial forums, but more will be added as we get more new memebers.

Knitted washcloths and pillow in the making

I finished the washcloths last weekend, but needed to tie off and add the shell edging on the tiny one.

About 90% of the time I can't just follow the instructions, sooo on the green washcloth I added more stitches and it is large!! Which is great, since it is 100% cotton it will shrink dramatically but still be a very useful washcloth. Now the little purple washcloth I decided to follow the instructions but use a slightly smaller weight yarn so the finish 7.5 x 7.5 size came out to more of a 6 x 6. Therefore the need to add the edging. I am betting the little one will be a small throw for Barbie after I wash it-LOL

Below is the cable knitted pillow covering, which is about done, it needed 9 more inches and 1 more skein of yarn ...because YES I didn't get the correct weight. Guess what Michaels and Joanns are the only ones that carry this brand and it is no longer stocked or being made, so I will have to change the plan. I will post when this actually becomes something. Digital layout and 4 x 6 photo layout

About a year or so ago I bought some cute 4 x 6 photo wallets for myself, mom and MIL. Rather than plop in the actual photo I thought it would be cute to do mini layouts with the images. Today I did another one, they are fairly simple and print well. The grid, crowns, frame, and bird are all from the Glitz design CD with the Glam and Basics collection on it.

I also decided to try being creative with a digital layout, I am working up to paper layouts again. So here is the digital layout I did today. Thanks for looking

Life changes

It have been months since I have posted. The last post was scheduled to post on my surgery date in March, then recovery time, busy with the store again, and then a major life change the was very dramatic and has changed everything for a while. The store is now closed, and I had another surgery this month and I feel things are starting to settle down.
My creative side is starting to rear its head and so I am just posting to let those of you who will read this I will be back- slow and steady though. Have a great day.

Tied Flower tutorial

This flower technique will work wonderfully with Tulle, organza, chiffon and silk as well as light weight cottons.

To have a 1.5" petal as seen you will need a piece of fabric that is 3" wide and approx. 16" long.

Fold with right sides together with short ends meeting. As seen I did a small running stitch one direction and to keep from having gaps, I went the other direction as well to fill in.

Then fold your fabric into a narrow ring. Then do a basting stitch to gather into a flower. Secure the flower at this point. You may keep working with your thread in the needle without trimming it off IF it is very long. Otherwise, re thread with at least 12" of length.

Starting with thread and need on the top of flower wrap over the edge of the fabric to the back and bring your needle back up throught the middle (pull in firmly) Then repeat this every 1' or so around your fabric making petals. When your done tie off.

Now you can apply any center you like, buttons, brads, etc. If using lighter fabrics you can layer nicely with this. I hope you enjoy this flower

New layouts: K & Company Boy scout paper & American Crafts...

Got a few more done this month. I really like the K & Company Specialty paper pad that is Boy scouting paper. So I did another layout very simple though, but I like it.

I used 1 paper for the background and two others and punched 1" circles and mimicked the design element on the paper. I also used the following:

Cosmo Cricket Mr. Campy Rub ons and the Ready set chip set- tent, hikers and alphas
Pink Paislee leaf from any of the chipboard sets: Fetching, Captivating, Fascinating etc. I peeled off the printed paper and did the following on it and the other items.
Tech: I painted it with cream craft paint, used the copper dabber then used the versamark pad with woodgrain Hero arts stamp and stamped over the letters, and images. Then I sprinkled Brown embossing powder on- heated. Love the effect.

I loved this al a mode paper set from American Crafts and wanted to use it. Three papers were used from the set. I also used White glitter, Amercian Crafts thickers and the heart is a Doodlebug heart from their Hopscotch alphas. The swirls are Prima say it with Crystals. I just cut alot of things out and used pop up adhesive. The journaling spot is Maya Road.

This last layout I finally completed yesterday. I have to say rolling those paper scrolls are NOT easy. Maybe because it was a varnish/glitter paper and thicker, but even the non glitter paper was challenging. I still like the effect.

Boy scout papers for layout

I thought these K & Company Boy scout papers in a pad were great for outdoors and guy photos. Here is what I did.

I stitched the mountains on the background using forward & reverse with machine, The tall trees I used a shadow stitch on my machine, then then straight and zig zag on the branches

The clock hands were stamped with a Glue Pad, then sprinkled lightly with brown Doodlebug flocking. Then spritzed with Adirondack color wash Espresso

Enhancing your photos with digital frames tutorial

Sometimes photos of things like flowers, houses, food come out great, other times something is needed. I want to start scrapping food and share some photos I have taken in a more artistic manor and make them more appealing.

So today I thought I would share how to put on a digital brush frame before you print. I am also posting the Red velvet cupcake photo that I used a digital frame not a brush on, but the same procedure applies to sizing and color.

Here is the tutorial for you: Using adobe elements 3

Open your image- duplicate (this is useful so you don't damage the original. All work will be done on duplicate) Close original image.

Step 1 Make a new layer-

Step 2 select eyedropper tool and then pick area on photo you want your Frame color to be

Step 3 Click brush tool-manuever to brush frame in your list of brushes

Step 4 change size of brush so it fits in the photo, this photo is vertical, and after placement of brushe I resize and turn.

Step 5 Fit frame to photo, and turn orientation if needed. Do this by Grabbing a corner square on the bounding box and pull out to fit.

Step 6 Click layer-merge visible and save if you like this. If you want to add texture you can with the next steps.

To add texture make sure you highlight the photo layer on the right side of screen.
Then Click Filters-scroll to texturizer and wait for the load

Next, you can see the Scale and relief as pointed out with the arrows you can increase of decrease and then when you like what you see click ok.

Then click layers-merge visible and save. Here is the texturized photo with the frame

Cutie Patootie Layout

I loved the Chatterbox Together papers and embellishments, and found the photo of my DD and her neighbor friend from years ago that needed to be scrapped.

I used a plastic plate for the shape of the circle, did hand cut work on the Chatterbox Together Multi-floral paper, used lots of the felt embellishments, buttons from the Treasures buttons collections, Petaloo flowers and gems, DMC floss and dimensional foam tape.

I did French knots with the floss. Simple thing, pull the thread up through the paper, then close but real close to were you came up- wrap the thread 3-4 times around the needle and then put needle through the paper next to where you cam up. Holding the thread as you pull through so it catches like a little knot. I also painted the journaling lines with red craft paint that I also used on the grunge alphas.

DCWV Green layout

I really like the Green papers from the DCWV paper pack. I had also gotten some of them individually and loaded them in the store. These are great for hikes, outdoors, nature, pets etc.

This one I tried something different and challenging to me. I am not a great user of cardstock. However, I wanted a slight embossed textured background and thought I would try Core'dinations Paprika and my new swiss dot cuttlebug embossing plate. Not only was the cardstock background a challenge the open space in and around the layout I am NOT used too.

As some of you may know Cuttlebug embossing plates are small. I wanted the whole 12 x 12 embossed, so I laid it under and rubbed over with a metal ruler. I am thinking a sanding block would also work well. I just moved it around until the entire background was embossed. I then did cut work and used two sheets of the Green Collection The Bears. I did stitch with the machine in 3 of the clouds. I kept the pressure foot up, stitch length 2.8 and went slowly, pivoting alot. I use alot of dimensional foam adhesive and like to pop things up, I even double layer the foam tape for height. Below is the supplies I used.

Basic Grey Origins Cards

Curious Duo Layout

I actually finished a layout!! Very exciting I haven't done one in months.

This is my DS-17 and my Niece-8, Christmas Eve. She tackled him, jumped him, he played keep away with his phone and wallet ALL night long. Laughing and giggling, he smiled more that night than a good months worth. He also requested the camera to retrieve this photo and put it on his Facebook.

Journaling is on a chipboard piece tucked behind the tree on the Pull Me tab.

Kaisercraft Birdhouse Holiday style!

I got this done just before Christmas, but lighting has been soo bad. I wanted to photograph it on the wall and not laying down. So these are the best I can get you now. I will also post some beginning prep photos of the process, but not all the decorating, I will just "spell" it out for you all. I hope you like this.

Supplies used for this project: Kaisercraft MDF Birdhouse, Holiday papers from K & Company, Melissa Frances, velvet paper (for under word JOY) and Making Memories. Embellishments were Melissa Frances Stickers (center of Circle), and then the K & Company Evergreen Chipboard and Evergreen 3D stickers, Martha Stewart Clear Microbeads, Stickles Diamond glitter, Crochet ribbon, Martha Stewart edge punch, dimensional adhesive strips, American Crafts Thickers glittered with Distressing stickles shabby shutters,Chesnut roan ink, Prima poinsettia flowers, Melissa Frances button, Kaisercraft Pearl and red rhinestones. Also,Cream colored Folk art craft paint. The birdhouse, and microbeads are in the store and assorted colors of stickles and distress stickles. Enjoy creating.

First you snap apart the birdhouse- then using a craft knife you cut the nibs off and sand- As seen in the following photos.

Then I painted the front, back and edges of all pieces. The front can be a sheer coating, but the edges and back may be seen to I did two good coats.

Then I picked my base paper, applied a thin amount of Tombow liquid glue to the front of the birdhouse just 1/8" from the edges and any openings or holes. Sorry the images have disappeared, or I would show you this part. I laid the paper on top and pressed firmly and smoothed. Then I flipped it over and trimmed right up and around the birdhouse. I used a small exacto and cut from the back through all holes- just in case they were needed.

I do have pictured of the ledge and how that looks. You can paint first before fitting the piece together, but this can cause some expansion of the wood, making it more of a tight fit. I did cover it with a washcloth and used a hammer to pound the decorative piece into the slots. I did also cover the piece with paper first ( but not on the prongs that fit into the slots). Then I finished it with the ink and some stickles.

I used layers of the dimensional adhesive strips, and layered the roof line and painted the edge. The complete the punched piece, I first cute the shape of the roof line and had it longer than the roof line, I cut the inside edge so that after the punch was used I had it the correct width I wanted. So the piece looked like a large narrow V shape. The Martha stewart punch was used. I started the closest I could to the inside corner and worked my way out on both sides. That left a piece in the center un-punched. I used scissors and hand cut what I figured looked close enough to the decorative punched edge.

This it the top of the roof line- so you can see the layers.

I used Terrifically tacky sheets to cover the ring in the center and around the edge of the plaque, then sprinkled the microbeads on. The sticker in the middle was placed on a paper and placed behind the opening with adhesive. Then the ring was placed around the opening.

Most of this is very simple, just layering your elements how you like and finishing with the glitter, and inking as you go.

TIP: the plaque lays far into the edge, so if you want it to sit higher use dimensional tape strips stacked in it and leave the top piece of the protective coating on the strip on. Then if you decide to lay your worded plaque in the ledge you will be able to see it. The item comes with the hooks (I used only 1), but there are a couple little holes on each side of the hook I have in place and you can use this for a little keychain rack too.

Knitted leggings -Easy??

This last February I posted that I was going to knit some basic white leggings for my daughter. Well, between the surgeries and life I just FINALLY finished them this week. It should have been alot easier- I can knit and purl just fine. However, these had to be done with 4 small double ended needles. Let's just say, I found it very challenging. So it is a good thing they get smooshed up, do to the frighting look if they were straight-LOL

She wore them to school the other day and said she liked them, and that they were "totally 80's", excatly what she wanted. Thanks for looking.

Apple pin cushion now finished!

So happy, this was the third one finished, many more of these sets to go though. This one I left the top open to fill with the sand and then stuffed. By the way you will need 1- long 3" needle to do the shaping and a curved needle (like for upholstery) I picked up a nice little set at joanns by Singer. By the way a question was asked where did I get the pattern. Heather bailey has an online store for her fabrics, patterns and yes even her scrapbook items. I get to it through her fun blog.

Handmade pin cushions: Pear and Tomato

I purchased the Heather Bailey pattern for these pin cushions. There is also an apple, but I am not done with it yet. I am making multiples of these in different fabrics.

As with anything pattern oriented, I did them like the pattern suggested, and added a lining even thought that was not suggested (filling partially with sandblasting sand).

I am now leaving the opening at the very top of the items, not the side like suggested, makes for filling whether sand or stuffing easier. I also am doing the linings seperately leaving the top area open as well, tucking into the outter cover and filling with a funnel- workes great now that I have done the first two the suggested way.

I will post more when I finish them. The sand blasting sand will actually keep pins sharpened, there are also strawberries I could add with the sand and fill the entire fruit with stuffing. However, I wanted them to stand well, so I put in about 1/2-3/4 of the way of the items with sand and then added stuffing. You will find that when using sand your items will NOT be as tight and filled out as when you use stuffing due to the shifting nature of sand.

I figured these would be cute as decorations, for storing sewing needles or for the scrapbooker to put those lovely stick pins (like Maya Road and Making memories) in for storage. Thanks for looking

Kaisercraft advent Calendar!!

This was fun to do: This Kaisercraft advent is 12 x12, the center is 8.5" x 8.5" and you can do a mini layout for it. I choose to use the Twisted Cherry Manger album for the center. I used the very back page of the album traced and trimmed to fit the area, and used all the other manger pieces. Below the images you can see some of the things I used and maybe a helpful tip.

**Painted with brown craft paint, brushed outside and front of rows with diamond stickles

** BG Figgy pudding papers, Gold dabber for the outside of the boxes (the part you dont see here)

**K & Co 3D Christmas Stickers, Prima poinsettia flowers, Kaisercraft pearls- BG opalines would work well too, Ruby stickles, Making Memory Mistleto collection stick pin, Elsie Christmas Chipboard buttons.

**Lots of sticky strip foam adhesive.

**The glitter for the numbers is all Martha Stewart, except the Red which is Art institute glitter damask red.

**Turq ink pad by Martha, Red Ruby cats eye, and dabber for the gold base coverage for the letters.

**glossy accents in a thin layer over the inked layers. Then sprinkled the glitter. They were laid on a spare chipboard sheet and sprayed them with a clear finishing spray to keep the glitter on.

**Raffia for in the manger, Chestnut ink for inking edges, and brown doodlebug flocking for the camel.

** quickie glue pen ised to draw radiating design on the "trough" for the radiant glitter that was sprinkled over it.

Many heights for the foam used.

Eskimo Kisses Card kit & Shimmerz

I got out the Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses Card kit out this weekend. The photos aren't perfect, lighting wasn't working for me today, but I wanted to share. Hopefully you can see a bit in the close ups the shimmerz.

My favorite Shimmerz spritz so far is Concrete- it gives an over all shine with little to no color. I did use the Hi Ho Silver Blingz ( the much shinier paint pot) for the edge area of the speaker bubble that says Merry Christmas.

I really saturated all the cards, then dabbed the blots with paper towels. I have to say the blots didn't stay and blended fabulously. They dried very fast, and as they dried I put something heavy on them to keep them from rippling too much. I could have let the weights on longer though.

Basic Grey Lemonade card kit cards

Well a month has gone by, it was busy. Finishing up work to go on vacation to Hawaii with the family, back to catch up- take a breathe.

So I pulled out my Basic Grey lemonade Card kit. I really like these- although I can think of ones on my own it takes time. I have needed cards lately and these come pre cut with embellishments, rub ons etc and I just add ink, glitter, bling and pop up dots on occassion.

At first I didn't buy these because I didn't need the sentiments, but after I got them realize most are just die cut letters I can keep or throw out. I just use my own stickers/chipboard alphas etc to make these my own and can now use all the cards in the kit. So here they are many similar to the package suggestion and the rest my own sentiments and design.

Bulletin board project for kids

This project I did yesterday and finished today, more images of the details below. My DD wanted a bulletin board that was cork and I thought magnet would be nice. I can't take credit for the idea, they show a similar one at the Ben Franklin store nearby.

However, in this project you can substitute fabric for scrapbookpaper.

Here is what you need: 1- 24 x 24 canvas
2- Paper Accents 12 x 12 galvenized metal
2-sheets Karen Foster adhesive backed Cork
3/4 (27in)of for a bit more room to tack- 30in: Ribbon
Package mini old fashioned clothes pins
1-Pkg self adhesive velcro
3/4yd. fabric OR 2 12 x 12 sheets of scrapbook paper
E-6000 or 527 all purpose adhesive
specialty thick pellon iron on backing
Cute fabric or scrapbook papers to cut and make magnets
1- package of 3/4" round magents.
1 bottle of paint to paint edge of canvas
Tad of duck tape
Terrifically tack double sided 1/4" tape (optional)
2 tiny nails

PS. is using paper for magnets you may want to adhere to thin
chipboard and then you won't need the pellon

1. Paint edge of canvas your color of choice
2. Place the two galvenized metal sheets together, aligned/squared true. Using duck tape tape the seam of 1 side and just go over the edge a tad. This will help if covering with fabric
3.Lay on canvas draw a line with a pencil where the metal ends (this should be center) make sure your metal is aligned on all edges.
4. Then lay out fabric right side onto table, place metal sheets with duct tape side facing up. Then apply the adhesive around the edge of metal and with a gentle tauntness fold the fabric in. Let dry
5.If doing fabric magnets, cut around images leaving a small amount of fabric (approx. 1/8-1/4") Then lay onto pellon adhesive side up (follow pellon instructions)
6. Then cut closely around images. Turn over put a dab of adhesive and plop on the magnet- they dry quickly.
7. Now lay adhesive onto canvas in the area where the metal will go, make sure to put it in the middle and not just the edge area.
8. Peel backing off cork and press into place just above the magnet area (you can do it the other way or even vertically)
9.Then lay ribbon on the seam then flip I placed a bit of the double sided tape to hold the ribbon in place, then nailed a tiny nail in.

Now your done, apply your hanging item on the back and your done.

If doing scrapbook paper instead of fabric to cover metal just glue to metal and trim and then adhear to canvas with the all purpose glue.

Cosmo Cricket Early bird cards

Well, as mentioned I haven't had much energy since my surgery, so not much has been done creatively. I just started getting spurts in the last week or so. I need to do cards for people that are general thank you and thanks about preparing dinners.

So, I thought I would start with stamping- not my forte, but I tried. I will post the one that survived my expectations. I really need to invest in special stamping tools, so I decided to move on to paper crafted cards.

Sad, but nice little stamped card- made with a sizzix die cut, and stampendous stamp set with cherries:

I really must say I thought the Cosmo Cricket Early Bird papers were nice, but didn't realize how addicting and how versatile they could be. I used items from the crafting kit and the ready, set, chip set. LOVE these products! I also used some cluny lace and some cats eye fluid chalk ochre and the stamp set was cutie cherries by Stampendous.

I have been recovering from major surgery the last few weeks, and I felt good enough to do this layout with Jennifer Barrette's new Totally BFF kit at Elemental Scraps. She also has her products at Scrapmatters.

I still have a few week more of recovery from surgery, and adjusting to some changes. Thankfully I now have an employee, and may even get to some other little projects. I am slowly making white leg warmers for my DD. Funny the 80's are back and it's "cool". Thanks for looking.

Sorry, but work has taken over life and life has taken over work. I have projects in planning stages: Knitting some basic leggings for my DD, need to pick up pack of double ended needles.
I also have some cute 3-D cards I plan to make with new Darcies U Cuts.

I will probably not post for another week or two, I will be having a surgery this friday. So, when I am feeling up and get some head way on these projects I will post. Thanks for checking back.

Basic Grey Porcelain card kit

The other night I sat down and made up the cards that come in the Basic Grey Porcelain card kit. I didn't go much off instructions- only used ink, stickles and some jewels to snazzy it up a bit. Ruffled knitted scarf -Finally

I promised this photo back in late November. This stuff is nifty, its like a woven bias tape. This one is varigated, but most are split with color. So one is black on one edge and white on another, or light purple on one edge or dark purple on the other, so you decide which would be showing most. In this case it was varigated, so all the color shows up. I may do another for my daughter and thought it would make a delightful little purse.

I used 5 skeins, I think 3 or so may be fine for many. I am tall and I like my scarves to hang to my hip joint and when I wrap it I want the end to hang down longer than my chest.

This was at the Joann's in my area, so it more than likely is at others, and the instructions that come are horrid. You need to go to the joanns web site, and put in the name of the yarn, there is a video clip that is excellent.

I love the prospect of new crafts and scrapbooking. I have been shopping lately at the Serendipity Scrapbook store and Joann's and Michael's for things I know I won't be getting or find other places.

Michael's has 2 Making Memories lines that MM is not offering to retailers, so I got some paper and embellies.

Currently I am working on a vision board, I have things written out and now to find images that will help support the written info. Anyone else do a vision board recently? I just posted this as a layout challenge in the forum this last week. A vision board that is VERY specific in wording and images (if possible) followed with a list in your planner is greatly helpful in achieving goals. If you have done this I would love to have you post what you did and did it help you?

I love this kit by Jennifer Barrette- the bright colors and nifty designs. I did two layouts wtih this kit, & even tried my hand at a white space with my Yeah- that's what I am talking about layout using the Teen Angst kit. I was gallery pick of the day on the 26th at Gotta pixel for Teen Moment- Hooray!!

2nd paper layout in the last week!!

This took me a good week to do. I don't have a dedicated scraproom, and everything I own is put away. So I have to go through and fish for things. I generally don't use solid cardstock as a background, but I think this worked.

I used Daisy Bucket Playlist, Cherry arte Poolside chipboard, various buttons, Scenic route chipboard alphas, Making memories glitters alphas and tiny alphas, and even EK success alphas. I used some Gin X chipboard stars too and did a pigment powder dusting over a couple of them using perfect pearls medium and the powder.

The background texture was made from a loosley woven net type paper. I first tried using the perfect medium on it and press it onto the paper and dusted with the powder- unfortunately the powder didn't stand out as much as I liked. So I decided to paint onto the netting and press it onto the background paper over the perfect pearls and it stands out much better.

I am so excited I completed 1 layout this weekend. I like how it came out. There isn't alot of techniques, and I didn't use glimmer mist, inks, chalks or any other medium on it, and it still looks good to me.

Last night I worked on 1 paper layout all night- I don't have a dedicated scrap space, so it's extra work when I want to do a project. I have to go find everything, luckily this project was pulled before December and I just brought it up. I hope to have it completed today or tonight, I just have to plan the journaling and glue it down.

Maybe I will get into the groove again, only took me an hour to decide if I wanted to mat the photo and then what color-LOL good grief!! Hope your scrapping projects flow much better. Have a good one!

Snow & lights

It has been a long, long 2 weeks here. Snow in the amount we got literally shuts down everything. I didn't even drive for over a week and a half. I think I mentioned I finished the scarf, but have yet to take a photo. Then tonight MORE snow- school was to start back up- Oh well-sigh

However, tonight I downloaded some images. The lights in the snow are when it was just about at the peak. We have never seen snow that high on the yard lights or house lights. The snow on the chair is at the peak of snow- approx. 12"

Then I attempted a shot of the tree- not horrible- but I am soo looking forward to personal lessons with the camera. I did this with my camera sitting on neckwraps instead of doing the stand. Maybe with some research I can make it look real good-LOL

Boo!! or should that be Jinga ling ling!!

I have no excuses, sad but true my store is the same- BUUUSSSY. Up to my eyeballs and more.

I am playing with the background of the blog and then I will update the blog header/title. I love the chandeliers. I am currently going to be cleaning up tomorrow and sunday to start getting the Christmas decorations up. I have plans to do some enhancements to what we have.
I am also working on a ruffled biased tape knitted scarf, I will post later, its only 1/4 done.

I designed some Christmas tags/labels, journaling spots and recipe cards. All are at Serendipity Scrapbooks store, and the Tags are FREE with every purchase. Then the journaling spots are free and recipe cards at different purchasing prices. They are beautiful printed out. I gave 3 different ways to print. There are jpg and png. so plenty of fun things you can do with these.

So excited. I really like this photo of my husband, and thought the papers where perfect for him and the photo.

I used the new Basic Grey Granola papers, the Mod green rub ons, the Granola buttons, and the chip sticker wording. Plus I used some Recess sticker alphas, Epoxy Dad sticker from Ek success, Tiny alphas from Making memories, Rub ons -nature from MME, and I used really big brads and put them in from the back so I could see the backside on the front of the layout.

I used a Maya Road tree and then torn vertical strips of a Granola solid for the trunk then inked with cats eye ochre and then some starlight black ink. I also trimmed the woodgrain paper to about 9 x 9, heavily crumpled and sanded and tore it. I also sanded the edges edges of the background paper. I did use alot of the dimensional adhesive too.

I also finished a couple of digi layouts this weekend with new kits by Jennifer Barrette.

Party Decoration- Cupcake place setting cards

My daugther had her party last friday, and mom didn't have 1 battery charged-BOO MOMMY!!

However, we had some of the cards left, and I did finally have a charged battery so-----

This is what we did.

I designed the cupcakes and used my cutter to cut it out. Then, I cut out the bottom of the cupcake liners, and cut them into two pieces. Then glued just the edge and bottom and smudged up the liner so it looked as you see here. Then my daughter used a paint brush and liquid glue and painted with glue where the frosting would go. Then she sprinkled her favorite glitters on. We then picked a font and cut the strips for the name tags. Another idea I had was to punch or cut hearts out and attach to the end of toothpicks and the poke through the cupcake and then have the names on the hearts (just a thought after- my daughter vetoed it)

They aren't perfect, since cupcake liners are curved. I had to work quicker, since she was speedy-LOL

She had a ball, we made hear decorations out of the bend and back clay and paper bead necklaces from the Retro Metro Beadels from Tinkering Ink. I may do a quick tutorial on the hair decorations, easy for kids to do and great inexpensive gifts.

I also finished a layout this weekend, and printing off some photos for future layouts. If I don't submit this layout then I will post it later. I used the new Granola papers & some embellishments from Basic Grey.

Gotta go load more goodies, crate paper just came and I have new albums by Basic Grey to load too!

Where has the time gone??

Wow, I thought I just posted the tutorial a week ago. Things have been very busy here, school, the site, activities etc. I have been starting to prep for the CKC class A moment in time that I will be teaching at the Bellevue CKC in Nov. The class registration opens up on October 26th at Creating keepsakes site.

I have also been sorting new products that came in for the store- Yummy sassafras lass, websters pages, Fancy pants!! American Crafts, Luxe Designs. I expect the Crate paper, Basic Grey papers and embellishments and the Little Yellow Bicycle christmas anytime this month.

I have been trying to do the challenges in the new photo forum we have, and I am failing. I do not know whats up with me or my camera. I have the Canon rebel XLT, and I was trying to do the slowest shutter speed to capture running water, and all I get is black-HUH?? Back to the drawing board I guess.

I did do a digi layout of my DH. I like this photo of him, and liked it big. Isn't he a hunk? Anyway, I will try to upload some fun things in the next week or so. I am designing the make n take for the Great pumpkin search shop hop for the store. I hope you all stop by and shop. later.
